For the Burger Patties

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For Assembly

  • 4 long sandwich buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Red onion slices
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Ketchup and mustard (optional)
  • Mayonnaise (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. Season the Meat – In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the Patties – Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a long, rectangular patty to fit the length of the sandwich buns.
  3. Chill the Patties – Place the patties on a tray and refrigerate for about 10 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.

Cook the Patties

  1. Heat the Grill or Skillet – Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Grill or Pan-Fry the Patties – Place the patties on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  3. Add Cheese – During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Assemble the Longboy Cheeseburgers

  1. Toast the Buns – While the patties cook, lightly toast the sandwich buns on the grill or in a separate pan for a crispy exterior.
  2. Layer the Ingredients – Place the cooked patties with melted cheese on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickles, if desired. Add ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise for extra flavor.
  3. Serve – Place the top half of the bun on each burger and serve immediately while hot.
