Description

Shrimp Oreganata is a classic Italian-American seafood dish renowned for its simplicity and burst of flavors. This dish features succulent shrimp topped with a vibrant mixture of breadcrumbs, herbs, garlic, and lemon, then baked to golden perfection. The crispy, seasoned breadcrumb topping contrasts beautifully with the tender shrimp, creating a delightful texture and taste experience.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 ½ pounds large shrimp (2125 count), peeled and deveined
  • ½ cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Prepare Shrimp: Ensure the shrimp are peeled, deveined, and patted dry with paper towels. This will help them crisp up nicely.

Make the Oreganata Topping:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the Italian breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh parsley, minced garlic, lemon zest, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).

  2. Mix Well: Stir in the olive oil and lemon juice until the mixture is well combined and slightly moistened. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Assemble and Bake:

  1. Arrange Shrimp: Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in a baking dish. You can use a 9×13 inch baking dish or several smaller dishes.

  2. Top with Breadcrumb Mixture: Evenly distribute the breadcrumb mixture over the shrimp, pressing lightly to ensure it adheres.

  3. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque and the breadcrumb topping is golden brown and crispy.

Serve:

  1. Garnish: Garnish with fresh lemon wedges and extra chopped parsley, if desired.

  2. Serve Immediately: Serve Shrimp Oreganata immediately while it’s hot and crispy.
